New Jersey man critically injured in motorcycle wreck

On June 22, a 37-year-old man was hospitalized after he was involved in a motorcycle accident in Gloucester County, authorities reported. New Jersey State Police stated that the incident transpired at the intersection of Franklinville Road and Route 45 in South Harrison Township shortly after 11 a.m.

According to police, a Toyota was heading west on Franklinville Road when it failed to stop at a red light at the Route 45 intersection and struck a Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by the 37-year-old man. The motorcyclist suffered critical injuries in the collision and received aerial transport to Cooper University Hospital, authorities said. Police stated that they are investigating the crash and that charges are pending.

As this case illustrates, motorcycle accidents may result in serious injuries. Because motorcycles afford their riders scant protection in the event of a collision, motorcyclists often suffer trauma to their spinal cords, heads, brains and vital organs. These types of injuries can be costly, requiring extensive medical treatment and long-term rehabilitation.

However, motorcyclists who are injured in traffic accidents may be eligible to seek financial compensation through civil action. By retaining a personal injury lawyer and filing suit against the party responsible for the accident, victims may seek to recover damages related to their injuries. These damages may include but are not limited to hospital bills, medical expenses and the costs associated with physical therapy and long-term rehabilitation. If successful in such a lawsuit, accident victims might also receive restitution for lost wages in the event that their injuries prove to be disabling.

If an accident victim's injuries turn fatal, certain family members of the decedent may file a wrongful death claim against the party responsible for the motorcycle accident. In this way, bereaved family members may seek financial compensation for losses directly related to the fatal incident.
