Chain reaction crash in New Jersey causes multiple injuries

On Behalf of | Mar 19, 2015 | Car Accidents

A crash in New Jersey left two individuals with what are described as non-life threatening injuries on March 13. The accident happened on Interstate 80.

According to representatives of the New Jersey State Police, the accident happened around 11:20 a.m. after a tractor-trailer from Pennsylvania with a load of organic produce broke down in the middle lane of westbound I-80 near Exit 62. A car carrier, also traveling westbound on the highway, reportedly tried to avoid hitting the truck. An SUV and other vehicles were involved in the crash with the SUV ending up caught between the two trucks.

The rescue squad from Saddle Brook removed a passenger from the SUV. In addition, a Nissan driver was extricated from the vehicle by firefighters from Elmwood Park.

In the initial period after the car accident occurred, reports that a car fell off the carrier and landed on the SUV were made. However, later reports from responders and eyewitness accounts discredited that information. A part of one of the cars might have fallen off the carrier, police said.

According to police, traffic was backed up on west I-80, local roads near the interstate and the Parkway. An investigation into the incident is ongoing. Authorities were unsure of the number of vehicles involved in the crash immediately after it happened.

In a multi-vehicle crash, it may be more difficult to determine fault. This is often the work of accident reconstruction teams. An individual hurt in the crash may suffer serious injuries as well as the financial burden of medical bills and lost time at work.

An attorney may help the injured individual by reviewing accident data to establish if negligence was involved. If so, the attorney may offer insight into filing a personal injury lawsuit.
