Sleeping driver rear-ends vehicle

Commuters in northern New Jersey may have been affected by an accident caused by a man who fell asleep behind the wheel on April 6. The incident occurred nearby mile marker 168.5 on the northbound side of the Garden State Parkway at approximately 8:30 p.m. According to police, there were four vehicles involved in the Woodcliff Lake wreck. The man who caused the crash is a 71-year-old male resident of New York City.

Local reports claim that the man initiated a chain-reaction of crashes when he rear-ended another vehicle. He was behind the wheel of a 2012 model Lincoln when he rear-ended a 2006 Buick. The force of the initial impact forced the Buick to crash into a 2006 Pontiac. Reporters say that a 2012 model Volkswagen was struck by the Pontiac immediately thereafter.

The 66-year-old female passenger inside the Buick was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center to receive treatment for injuries that were described as serious but not life-threatening. On the day following the crash, local media reported that the woman was in stable condition. Records indicate that the two occupants inside the Buick share a residence, but reporters were unclear on the nature of their relationship.

Anyone injured in a car crash might be entitled to collect restitution for medical expenses, loss of income and repair costs if the accident was caused by the negligence of another driver. A personal injury attorney can assist an injured client by examining accident investigation reports and other evidence in order to determine responsibility.
