Two women killed in New Jersey highway crash

Two New Jersey women were killed and three people were injured in a crash in East Greenwich on April 26. The accident happened shortly before 8:30 a.m. on Interstate 295.

According to authorities, a 22-year-old Camden man was driving his Lexus in the center southbound lane of the highway when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a southbound Acura that was traveling in the left lane. The Acura then hit a guardrail, causing the car's driver, a 22-year-old Pennsauken woman, and a passenger, a 22-year-old Berlin woman, to be ejected from the vehicle. They were both pronounced dead at the accident scene. A third occupant of the car, a 23-year-old Gloucester City woman, was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

The Lexus driver and his 19-year-old male passenger were transported to Inspira Medical Center in Woodbury with undisclosed injuries. Police said they do not yet know why the Lexus driver lost control of his vehicle. The crash remains under investigation.

A driver could lose control of his or her vehicle for a number of reasons, including excessive speed, reckless driving, impaired driving, texting and driving or a mechanical failure due to poor maintenance. If authorities determine that driver negligence played a role in a fatal car crash, a deceased victim's family members may wish to consult with an attorney about their available remedies. After reviewing the details of the accident, an attorney could recommend the proper legal response, including the possibility of filing a civil wrongful death claim against the responsible party. A successful claim could bring the plaintiffs compensation for funeral and burial expenses as well as other amounts permitted by statute.
