New Jersey Transit bus seriously injures pedestrian in accident

On Behalf of | Apr 27, 2015 | Auto-Pedestrian Accidents

According to law enforcement authorities, a New Jersey Transit bus leased to the Academy Bus company hit and critically injured a 27-year-old man in North Bergen. The accident reportedly occurred on April 17 around 5:50 a.m. as the man was crossing the street in a crosswalk at an intersection.

Officers reported that the man, who is from Flushing, N.Y., was struck by the bus as it turned left after heading south from its staging area in James J. Braddock Park. Following the collision, the man was pinned underneath the bus before he could be rescued.

Emergency medical personnel who responded to the accident rushed the man to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment. At the time of the report, he was in critical condition for severe injuries, including bleeding from his brain. Law enforcement officers with the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office indicated they were still investigating the accident’s cause and were not yet certain whether they would file criminal charges against the bus’s driver.

When a pedestrian is a victim of a crosswalk injury due to the negligence or distraction of a driver, the injured victim may want to consider filing a personal injury civil lawsuit. When the driver is a commercial driver who is working at the time of the accident, both the driver and their commercial carrier or company may be named as defendants to the lawsuit. By suing, injured victims may seek to recover damages in order to be compensated for the losses they have suffered as a result. People may thus want to seek a consultation with a personal injury attorney about their cases. An attorney might help maximize their client’s damages recovery.
