Man suffers fatal injuries in elevator accident

On Behalf of | Aug 30, 2019 | Premises Liability

In New Jersey and across the nation, accidents involving elevators seem rare. Unfortunately, they do happen, and people suffer injuries and fatalities because of them. If an elevator accident happens, it could be due to a failure to ensure that it was in safe working condition. Those who have been hurt or lost a loved one in this type of incident should know what steps they should take.

An elevator accident claimed the life of a 30-year-old man in August. According to the investigation, the man was found trapped between the first floor and the basement, and emergency crews were unable to save his life. After assessing the case, the medical examiner determined it to have been an accident.

There was evidence of blunt force damage to his torso and neck. It looked as though he had been exiting the elevator on the first floor. It then fell and caught him, leading to his injuries and death. A full investigation by regulatory authorities will be conducted. The building provides rental units and is considered a luxury residence.

Property owners are responsible for maintaining a safe area. This is true whether it is a residential building, a private property, a store, a restaurant or anywhere else. If there is an accident because of a lack of care on the part of the owner, this could be the foundation for a legal filing. When there is a fatality, the family left behind will lose the companionship and contributions of their loved one. If hazardous conditions, a lack of repair or any other issues of negligence caused the incident, having legal advice from a firm experienced in premises liability may help victims receive compensation.
