According to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, a Camden man was charged in connection with an alleged DUI fatal accident that occurred on Oct. 4. Reports indicate the accident occurred around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Rosedale and Westfield Avenues.
A Lanoka Harbor man, 61, died after he was struck by a drunk driver on Nov. 10. According to reports, the pedestrian was carried on the hit-and-run driver's windshield for approximately a mile until the vehicle was stopped by police.
Middlesex authorities report that a 24-year-old man is facing DWI charges after allegedly driving drunk and causing the death of another individual in a crash in Woodbridge on Oct. 19. The man's charges include driving while intoxicated and death by auto.
An alleged drunk driver and several other entities have been named as defendants in a civil suit regarding a hit-and-run crash in 2010. The accident reportedly occurred when the driver failed to stop for nine pedestrians; one lawyer is filing this suit for a family of three who suffered serious injuries. The crash happened on Route 210 South after a soccer game at the New Meadowlands Stadium between Mexico and Ecuador. The defendants listed in the suit include the stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority and Major League Soccer.
It goes without saying that drunk drivers are a hazard when they take to the streets and highways of New Jersey. And while consuming alcohol before driving is dangerous in and of itself, the effects might be intensified for people who are taking drugs at the same time -- whether these are prescription drugs or illegal ones. It's possible that the combination of alcohol and drugs might lead someone to do something that they would not otherwise do.
