A 33-year-old resident of New Jersey who was working as a conductor on a derailed Amtrak train has filed a lawsuit against Amtrak for serious injuries he claims to have suffered in the fatal accident on May 12. The man was on a break to use the restroom when the incident occurred. His injuries from the crash include broken shoulders, a broken back and a broken neck.
According to the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board, many changes need to be made to improve trucker safety. Such changes include anti-collision technology, better hours for truckers and better regulation of companies with high accident rates. These are among 100 recommendations that the NTSB says have been ignored despite fatality rates increasing over the past several years.

A New Jersey man died in a collision in Lawrence that sent his car into a lake on July 17.
