The Center for Disease Control released some statistics regarding dog bites in the United States, and the information reveals that nearly 4.5 million people suffer dog bites every year in this country. Not all of these bites are serious, but it was reported that 885,000 of these victims do seek medical attention, and half of them are children. Approximately 27,000 of those had reconstructive surgery in 2012.
Egg Harbor Township Police have charged a New Jersey man with numerous weapons offenses and driving while intoxicated after he allegedly ran his vehicle into cars stopped at a traffic light just before 8 a.m. on Oct. 8. The man was unable to stop his 2008 Mercedes Benz and crashed into a 2014 Ford Focus, setting off a chain of accidents involving three other vehicles.
On Aug. 19, a fatal vehicle accident occurred in Freehold Township in which three people were killed and a fourth person was seriously injured. The accident took place on a section of Kozloski Road that residents of the area report is dangerously prone to car accidents because there is no median area or barriers. It is a 'fast road" according to one resident.
On Aug. 13, a 48-year-old man who allegedly dragged a woman with his vehicle for three blocks entered a not guilty plea to charges of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and vehicular homicide. The fatal incident reportedly occurred at a farmers' market in Hawthorne on Aug. 10.
Two women were killed and a married couple and their two children were injured in a two-vehicle collision in New Jersey on July 26. The car accident occurred about 2:45 p.m. when the deceased victims' Saturn sedan drifted into the center lane of the Garden State Parkway in Stafford Township and struck the Ford pickup truck that was carrying the family. The force of the impact sent both vehicles off the left side of the roadway.
A Honda sedan crashed into a building in Ridgefield around 1:30 a.m. on July 24, killing one occupant of the vehicle and seriously injuring the driver and another passenger. All three victims were taken to the hospital where one passenger, a 20-year-old man, was declared dead.
A three-vehicle accident on the New Jersey Turnpike resulted in the death of one man on June 13. The deceased car accident victim, a 45-year-old man, was a passenger in a car that was rear-ended at a tollbooth by another car. Police closed three toll lanes on the Turnpike for several hours after the accident in order to conduct their investigation.
