Safety for workers in warehouses

On Behalf of | Feb 28, 2017 | Workplace Injuries

New Jersey workers might wonder how safe a warehouse job site may be. There are a number of precautions employers should take to keep their warehouse workers safe. One of those precautions is ensuring that all onsite employees and contractors are given a site induction. Every site induction will have safety aspects specific to the site and industry as well as a review of fire exits and the location of the fire assembly point.

Slip-and-fall accidents are common in all types of workplaces. Work areas with heavy foot traffic should be kept clear to prevent these types of accidents. Workers should regularly tidy up and not leave material lying around where it could get in another worker’s way.

There should also be built-in ladders throughout the warehouse. Some warehouses may require roof access. If this is the case, there should be safe ladder access for the roof as well. In addition, employers should follow all industry health and safety regulations.

While following these regulations will reduce the likelihood of accidents, workplace injuries may still occur. When they do, workers may be initially overwhelmed with the recovery process. Most workers who are injured or become ill on the job are eligible to file for workers’ compensation. Workers who are told by their employers that they are not eligible or are threatened with termination or other penalties may want to talk to an attorney about their rights. In some cases, an employer may not be well-informed about employee rights either. Workers’ compensation can be critical in assisting an employee and their family.
