On the night of Feb. 9, icy road surfaces on the New Jersey Turnpike in Cranbury caused two tractor trailers to swing out of control as they attempted to slow down to avoid accidents. The resulting accidents included 40 vehicles in total and killed one 52-year-old Bordentown man.
A Jackson man was critically injured after the SUV he was riding in was struck head-on by another vehicle in Franklin. The accident happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Franklin Avenue near Norma Avenue.
According the New Jersey law enforcement, a 41-year-old man from Thorofare was arrested after a fatal head-on motor vehicle accident left a 23-year-old woman dead and two others injured. The incident occurred on Jan. 27 around 11:30 p.m. on Route 206 in Shamong. The man was driving a Ford pick-up when he slammed into a 27-year-old's Saturn. The passenger who died was trapped inside the Saturn, and emergency responders had to extricate her from the vehicle.
Three people died because of a car accident on the New Jersey Turnpike on Jan. 22. The one-vehicle crash occurred at about 7:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the Turnpike near Cherry Hill Township.

According to the federal agency, distracted driving can be caused by a number of circumstances, including using a cellphone, texting while driving or eating in the car. A 45-year-old Mt. Arlington man may have been driving under the influence of drugs when he crashed head-on into another vehicle in Frankford on Dec. 24. New Jersey State Police said they found suspected narcotics in his car.

Middlesex authorities report that a 24-year-old man is facing DWI charges after allegedly driving drunk and causing the death of another individual in a crash in Woodbridge on Oct. 19. The man's charges include driving while intoxicated and death by auto.
