3-car freeway collision leaves 1 dead, 5 injured

On Behalf of | Jan 2, 2015 | Car Accidents

The driver of a Honda Odyssey was killed in a three-car collision initiated when his vehicle rear-ended another vehicle on the freeway, according to the New Jersey State Police. Five other people were injured in the crash, including the Honda driver’s three minor children who were riding in the vehicle with him. Police were conducting an investigation into the crash at the time of reporting.

The accident happened in the early evening of Dec. 22 on Interstate 78 in Warren. Authorities say that a 2007 Honda Odyssey traveling west on the freeway first struck the back of a 2013 Audi S5, causing the van to veer to the right off the road and hit a tree. The Honda also hit a 2010 Nissan Altima, which ran off the road to the left and struck a guardrail before it also left the road and crashed into a tree. The Honda’s driver, a 54-year-old Virginia man, died at the accident scene.

The Virginia man’s three children and the Nissan driver, who is a 61-year-old man from Bridgewater, were taken to Robert Johnson University Hospital Somerset for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The Audi driver, a 36-year-old man from Hoboken, also suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and he was treated at Morristown Medical Clinic.

Accident victims who survive crashes may find themselves unable to take care of or provide for themselves following the accident. Injuries common in rear-end collision automobile accidents can range from whiplash to more serious vertebrae and nerve damage capable of producing temporary and permanent disabilities.

Concerns over resourcing the increased cost of living for accident victims injured in a car crash may be allayed through the pursuit of a personal injury claim. In such a claim, the costs of necessary medical, therapeutic and assisted living care may be sought from those deemed to be responsible for their losses.
