Preventing workplace falls

Workers in New Jersey should beware of falls in the workplace and should pay attention to safety information regarding their prevention. While injuries from falls are more prevalent in some industries than others, anyone can slip in a cluttered hallway and sustain a serious injury from falling.

2 workers injured in hangar collapse

One worker was seriously injured and another worker suffered minor injuries when an airport hangar collapsed in New Jersey on Jan. 16. The workplace accident took place while the workers were building a hangar at Morristown Municipal Airport on 6 Airport Road. At the time, the hangar was unfinished and consisted of only steel erector beams.

The importance of truck safety in New Jersey

According to the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board, many changes need to be made to improve trucker safety. Such changes include anti-collision technology, better hours for truckers and better regulation of companies with high accident rates. These are among 100 recommendations that the NTSB says have been ignored despite fatality rates increasing over the past several years.

Garbage truck worker hit, killed by garbage truck

According to New Jersey police, a garbage truck worker in Franklin Lakes was killed on Jan. 7 when he was struck by the garbage truck while on a route with a coworker. The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Black Hawk Lane in a residential neighborhood.

NHTSA testing V2V communication systems

New Jersey drivers may have the ability to communicate with other drivers around them, according to a report released on Jan. 6. In 2014, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that they were rolling out communication technologies that would allow small vehicles, including passenger cars and pickup trucks, to communicate with each other.

Dangers of driving while distracted

New Jersey residents may be unaware of a report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention concerning distracted driving. According to the federal agency, distracted driving can be caused by a number of circumstances, including using a cellphone, texting while driving or eating in the car. Texting while driving may be one of the most dangerous types of distractions.

Fatal crash results in charges for New Jersey man

According to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, a Camden man was charged in connection with an alleged DUI fatal accident that occurred on Oct. 4. Reports indicate the accident occurred around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Rosedale and Westfield Avenues.

New Jersey driver could be charged in Route 206 crash

A 45-year-old Mt. Arlington man may have been driving under the influence of drugs when he crashed head-on into another vehicle in Frankford on Dec. 24. New Jersey State Police said they found suspected narcotics in his car.

3-car freeway collision leaves 1 dead, 5 injured

The driver of a Honda Odyssey was killed in a three-car collision initiated when his vehicle rear-ended another vehicle on the freeway, according to the New Jersey State Police. Five other people were injured in the crash, including the Honda driver's three minor children who were riding in the vehicle with him. Police were conducting an investigation into the crash at the time of reporting.
