4 years after accident, construction worker gets $3.2 million

It can take some time for an injured person to receive richly deserved compensation for an injury received on a construction site. The time spent dealing with the injury and the issues that stem with it, such as workers’ compensation, can be time consuming to the point that some workers might wonder if they are ever going to have their case resolved.

What one New Jersey construction worker just went through might serve as inspiration for people who are considering filing claims for injuries they have suffered. The man, who is now 63 years old, fell between five and eight feet from a scaffold while he was working on a high-rise building in Jersey City in 2010. He has been unable to work since that time.

He suffered multiple injuries in the accident, including damage to his spine and to his lungs. He was on a ventilator for more than a week after the accident and has had to undergo multiple surgeries in the intervening time. He says that he still has issues with his back and shoulder, which were also injured in the fall.

Now, however, the struggle might be worth it. A jury awarded the man $3.2 million for the injury. Even the trial over the accident took a long time, lasting 13 days.

This case can serve as a beacon of hope for workers who are hurt on the job. Being unable to work for any length of time is devastating, let alone for four years. Injured workers need to know that there are resources they can consult if something similar happens to them.
