On Aug. 19, a fatal vehicle accident occurred in Freehold Township in which three people were killed and a fourth person was seriously injured. The accident took place on a section of Kozloski Road that residents of the area report is dangerously prone to car accidents because there is no median area or barriers. It is a ‘fast road” according to one resident.
Police investigating this accident believe the 19-year-old male driver of a southbound Volkswagen Jetta for some reason crossed into oncoming traffic and then lost control of the vehicle. He collided head-on with a Honda Pilot, which flew and came down on a Toyota Camry. The young man’s 20-year-old girlfriend was a passenger in the Jetta. Both died at the scene, and a 1-year-old child survives the couple. The 50-year-old male driver of the Honda died in the crash as well. According to prosecutors, a 25-year-old victim who was driving the Toyota suffered a head injury. This person remained in critical condition.
Investigators reported all the persons involved in this accident wore seatbelts, and the vehicles’ airbags functioned properly. The authorities do not suspect excessive speed was an issue, but when investigating fatal accidents, they examined possible contributing factors, including cellphone usage.
When car accident injuries and deaths occur, the investigation may take quite some time to complete. Police interview witnesses and may utilize crash reconstruction in the process.
Families who suffer the loss of a loved one in a fatal vehicle accident might want to seek the guidance of a personal injury attorney. There could be reasons to file a civil lawsuit in pursuit of things like financial support for a child or compensation for the loss of companionship. An attorney might help families negotiate insurance settlements too.
