Two women were killed and a married couple and their two children were injured in a two-vehicle collision in New Jersey on July 26. The car accident occurred about 2:45 p.m. when the deceased victims’ Saturn sedan drifted into the center lane of the Garden State Parkway in Stafford Township and struck the Ford pickup truck that was carrying the family. The force of the impact sent both vehicles off the left side of the roadway.
The 70-year-old woman and the 45-year-old woman in the Saturn, a mother and daughter from Turnersville in Washington Township, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Ford pickup, a 41-year-old Warren man, and his wife both suffered minor injuries. Paramedics transported them to Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin. The couple’s two children suffered unspecified injuries and were airlifted to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City. A New Jersey State Police trooper said that the children’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
A police investigation was still underway two days later. Southbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway were closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene and tried to determine possible causes or contributing factors. It is unlikely that police will press charges.
When several members of a family suffer injuries in a traffic accident caused by another driver, their household expenses may become unmanageable because of medical bills. Personal injury attorneys could provide victims with information on their options for seeking compensation after an accident in which the at-fault driver died. At such a time, any civil claims could be filed with the driver’s insurance provider or against the driver’s estate.
